According to a Redfin analysis, a pool's effect on a property’s value has a lot to do with where you live.

How much is a pool worth?  The answer depends on where you live.  In Orange County, CA, homes with pools sell for an estimated $68,654 more than comparable homes without them, making it the 2nd highest metro area where pools are most valuable.  Los Angeles tops the list, where a pool adds $117,188 to the value of a typical-sized home in that metro.

What is a Pool Remodel?

The term "pool remodel" is a general term referring to any type of renovation or modification made to an existing pool.  It could be as simple as standard replaster, or as complicated as major pool structural modifications such as adding a new spa or altering the size and/or shape of the pool.

Why Do Pools Need to be Resurfaced?

The majority of pools, especially older pools were built with standard plaster pool finishes.  A standard white plaster pool finish was by far the most common type, although pool plaster can be another color such as gray or blue.  Pool plaster usually lasts on average 10 years, with a max of around 20 years.  Pool plaster is a soft material and over its lifetime its exposed to harsh pool chemicals and pH which over the years slowly etches away at the soft plaster over time causing the interior pool walls and pool floor to begin to feel rougher like sandpaper and may develop stains from dirt & debris.  Once this happens, its time to consider: "pool resurfacing", "pool replastering", "pool refinishing" which are all similar terms referring to the same process of removing a pool's old plaster or interior pool finish and then apply a new type of pool finish.
